I thought it would be much harder than it has been. For the first few weeks my family didn't even notice they weren't eating any meat. I had to point it out. We never ate red meat to begin with and I usually serve several vegetarian meals a week anyway. One night I did cook them turkey burgers and I had a black bean burger. I make chili with three beans and boca burger meat. Tacos with boca burger. A really yummy dish with cubed red potatoes, spinach, broccoli, chick peas and a lemon, olive oil, mustard dill sauce. They all loved it. Soon I'll be ready to venture into more exotic vegan recipes like lasagna. I think it uses silken tofu instead of ricotta. If I get them a frozen cheese pizza I get an amy's organic with roasted veggies and no cheese and it is delicious. Stir fry's with tofu and brown rice all always a hit. Tonight I'm trying white chicken chili made with seitan.

Wow, this is very impressive, and tempting to try out!

Do you feel like it's hard to do? And how about your family and the meals you eat together? Jim is only partly vegetarian, and even now I struggle sometimes to figure out what we'll all eat together.

Wow, Kim. Those are some pretty amazing results, especially considering the fact that you've always been a healthy eater. I've considered trying to be vegetarian-ish, but I'm afraid that would just mean I'd eat Cocoa Krispies for every meal.

Angela- You are certainly right. Although I found it in the YA section it is most definitely aimed at older teens. I'll be sure to make that clear in future posts.

Hi there,

Jut for the record, Nami Mun's 'Miles From Nowhere' is not at all a YA novel--covering everything from drug addiction to prostitution to abortion, even though the main character is barely a teenager, the novel is certainly not marketed at them.

Just wanted to make sure this is clear so no parents searching for a poetic read for their 12-year-olds would accidentally pick this up. It is a great read for older teens and adults, of course.

Kim - again a great list. Savvy summaries. (still don't know how you do it!)
Glad you made it through OWEN. You can likely actually hear his voice, with all its levels and meanings, right?
And then your comments on NORMAL PEOPLE... which I haven't read nor heard of (but will look for it) has me all curious because you mention your book. Oh, I hope it's going swimmingly. I am very curious. Hope we'll be hearing about it. Novels told in stories are so rich, so multi-planed and have a way of being circular in the nicest way, also because we like circles, look for them in everything.

As always, thanks for the reviews, my TBR stack thanks you, my library and B&N cards thank you!

What a lovely way to discover your blog--to have my own book, Normal People Don't Live Like This, so thoughtfully and poetically reviewed here. Thank you so much for reading it and taking the time to write about it.
And may I second your opinion on The Glen Rock Book of the Dead? I loved that too and am also still absorbing lessons from its brief, intense scenes and portraits.

Great post! You are absolutely right - we are living in a culture that nurtures this kind of behavior...we see rewards for behaving badly. That said, Kanye is just an ass.
